I watched this last night, and pretty much agree with your review, although I did still find it reasonably entertaining. The sanctioned police torture in a seeming CIA-like secret torture safe house was pretty hard to believe - not that I find it hard to believe cops would torture someone to get the info they want, but the way in which it's done in this film is just not believable. The ironic thing about the female agent and [spoiler] her extralegal actions at the end of the film, is that she is primarily motivated to bring down this cartel because her sister and brother-in-law died from some of the tainted cocaine, but the person she kills (almost like petulant revenge, after failing to apprehend anyone else) is the one guy who was trying to figure out who was cutting the coke with lethal shit, and to put a stop to it (damaging the cartel brand, not good for business if your customers keep dying). So she actually murdered the guy who had gone to great lengths to ensure what happened to her sister (and others) wouldn't happen again. Just one of the many logical flaws with this okay-ish film.

About the race: Back by popular demand, and reincarnated in 2016 at a new venue to bring you a new challenge! Pure Mojave Desert running at its finest! Come join us on this PAVED and scenic course which covers rolling terrain.

Commencing at an elevation of roughly 4500 feet, runners will experience high desert vegetation to include Joshua Trees, Pinion-Juniper, Mountain Rose, Sagebrush, and a relatively lush Toiyabe National Forest not commonly associated with Las Vegas. The road twists and turns thru the canyon; a true treasure of the Spring Mountains N.R.A. enjoying temperatures 10 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley.

This running festival offers something for everyone! We offer the chance to run two events without the headache of travel in between! There are many options: Saturday Marathon in the morning + Saturday evening 10K; 1/2 Marathon in the morning and 5K evening; Saturday 10K in the morning + Saturday evening 5K... you get the idea! OR of course you can just come and run one event. But if you have ever been "ultra curious" this is a great way to expand your boundaries!

**NOTE: There are two 10Ks and two 5Ks at this race! One on Saturday morning and one on Saturday evening. Both are exactly the same course. This is to provide runners the opportunity to run back to back events. If you are running one only, it is preferred that you run on SATURDAY MORNING to keep the field most competitive. Or run both! Saturday evening's awards for 10K and 5K will go to the top 3 overall male and female finishers + 1 deep male and female overall grand masters (50+) per distance only. Age group awards will only be included on Saturday morning for these distances. Please pay attention to the different start times when you register!

The 50K runs along the paved Lovell Canyon Road as it twists and turns covering rolling terrain. Lovell Canyon Road is 11 miles in length. You will run the first 26.2 miles together with the marathoners. At mile 11 marathoners, 50K, and 50 mile runners will turn around and run 2.1 miles out and back along the same paved road, before returning to this same aid station. You will turn around again and return the 11 paved miles back to the finish line (Aid station "Homebase" for 50K and 50 mile runners). You'll then have a second shorter out and back of 4.8 miles (out 2.4, back 2.4) to complete the 50K distance. You will never be further than 5.5 miles to your own drop bag (3 locations available). No one climb is too long and for many reasons makes for a great first 50K, a possible PR at the distance, while offering a challenge to seasoned runners. No pacers allowed for the 50K. Total climbing is roughly 2400' with a net zero gain. 13 hour cut off.

* 50K Runners may have 3 drop bags, accessed several times as noted above. The 50K is entirely paved. Please use your own bag and have it clearly marked with your name and bib number on it. You can drop off your bags race morning before your race start. NOTE: These bags will not return until after this aid station is finished or there is a shift change. Drop bags will not be mailed at my expense, so please plan accordingly.

AIRPORT & CAR RENTALLas Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) services the Greater Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and surrounding areas. It is serviced by numerous carriers and has on site car rental companies. This airport is located within 10 minutes of "The Strip", and approximately 30 minutes to the race venue at Lovell Canyon.

** For those traveling from out of town- there is NO bus transportation from The Strip to Lovell Canyon. Please see "Directions". I suggest renting a car, as rates are reasonable and you'll be able to experience Las Vegas' surrounding areas with much more leisure. Why not check out Red Rock Canyon on your way back if you're not too beaten up from the run! Alternatively, Uber and Lyft are also options.

Please also note that food, water, and provisions are for registered athletes only. There are no concessions at Lovell Canyon so please come self sufficient with your own food, water, shade, and necessities.

NOTE: Awards will be handed out at the finish line very shortly after runners start finishing, and will continue as award winners come in. Please listen for your name to be called if you think you may have placed. Awards not collected on site will be subject to a shipping charge if they are requested to be mailed (USA only) no later than 1 week after the race. Payment of $15 per award is to be made via Paypal account: calicoracing@hotmail.com with your shipping address and award in the memo. *Please read the above award categories to ensure you are eligible for an award*

With many different appetites for hotels, for this race I have chosen to not have a host hotel, but rather suggest a number of hotels that are most convenient to Lovell Canyon. You can book your rooms directly with the hotels. Note: there no hotels close to Lovell Canyon, so the hotels listed here are mostly in the Greater Las Vegas Valley.

There will be a tarp laid out at the start/ finish line for you to leave your gear bags. Please use your own bag and label it with your name. Please not these are not checked nor guarded, so no valuables please. Please also remember to retrieve your bags after the race, as bags will not be mailed after the event.
