If you had to sum it up in one sentence, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is pure adrenaline pumping fun from start to finish. Its a better shooter than Ghosts and for the most part its far better than Black Ops 3. And in its many ridiculous, over-the-top, balls-to-the-wall moments, it functions perfectly as a violent RTS. And, like the classic arcade shooters, it throws in some nifty military intelligence stuff in its story to keep things interesting. The problem is, theres not enough of that to make Advanced Warfare stand out against the competition. This year, the fight will be between Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. But dont go picking up Advanced Warfare expecting it to have the best, or even a compelling enough story to make it worth your time. This is strictly an arcade shooter, and not a terrible one at that.
Even among its own genre, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare stands out. Compared to the other games in its year, it looks better, plays better, and is a more enjoyable way to kill time. Its just a little less fun than I remember Call of Duty being back when I was in high school. Call of Duty 5 hit two years ago, and the series has been losing the plot ever since. Advanced Warfare avoids a lot of the problems the series has had for the last few years. Its a fun shooter that looks better than its competition. And for some strange reason, Activision kept it around when they started making dumber Call of Duties.
For all the love that the series can bestow,Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a love letter to Call of Duty 3, 4, and 5. Its too streamlined to accommodate the series confusing and ever-changing dumbed-down formula, but it makes up for that by upping the ante in almost every way. 3d9ccd7d82
