Gal Cohen Groumi will begin studying at the University of Michigan

Israel national team swimmer Gal Cohen Groumi has agreed to join the University of Michigan swimming team and he will be part of the prestigious program from next school year, right after the Tokyo Olympics. The 18-year-old swimmer was part of the apostles quartet that set the Olympic criteria in the 4x200 freestyle, and he is expected to receive the status of an IDF athlete, which will allow him to make the move to the United States. Groumi is currently in a training camp in Austria, led by national team coach Luca Gabriello, in order to maintain his place in the national team's senior quartet, as well as to determine the criterion for Tokyo in the individual anointings as well. In Israel, he trains at the Hapoel Urban Hod Hasharon Association, under coaches Zohar Galili and Nikita Shkilenko.

The University of Michigan's swimming team, the Wolverines, is one of the best in NCAA history. She has won the college championship 12 times (19 if you count college championships even before the NCAA era), with only the University of Texas having more wins than her (14). Her last championship was in 2014, but she has also been a regular member of the top 10 in the United States ever since. Today, another Israeli swimmer, Nadav Aharonson from Hapoel Dolphin Netanya, is swimming in the group, which will surely facilitate Groumi's adaptation, with one of the senior Israelis who swam and excelled there being Olympic swimmer Alon Mendel.

The team is led by one of the top coaches in the United States today, Mike Bottom, when his former coach, and who also coached Mendel at the time, is none other than Bob Bauman, the legendary coach of Michael Phelps. Phelps himself also swam with the Wolverines while Bauman coached the team, but without being an official member of it. In all, no fewer than 97 female swimmers and swimmers have swum in Michigan over the years. #UniversityOfMichigan #Universit #Of #Michigan Follow us Facebook :
